But for quick-thinking by-standers and efficient medical personnel, a member of the 3SC Supporters Club, Awwal Mohammed would have given up the ghost on Sunday afternoon as the home side came from a goal down to win the matchday 33 fixture 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
Awwal, an accredited home steward, slumped immediately after Gombe United had taken the lead on 54 minutes through Musa Usman whose 30-yard stunner beat goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar in goal for 3SC.
The timely intervention of the medical personnel on hand saved his life as they battled pitch-side to revive him.
A similar incident which involved 3SC vice-captain Promise Ebiaku was also quickly nipped in the bud as he was rushed to the hospital after collapsing on the pitch during the 1-0 home win against Enyimba of Aba.
Meanwhile, on the pitch, substitute Jide Apena was brought down for a penalty which was scored by Seun Akinyemi in the 74th minute to restore parity.
Six minutes later, after a period of sustained pressure, another substitute Nojeem Olukokun blasted a volley off a corner kick into the net to secure all three points for the home side.
The win moved 3SC into 14th position level on points with Rangers International and ABS FC, with five games left to play as the battle for survival intensify.
The Oluole Warlords’ next game is on the road at Abia United next Sunday.
