Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reassured the academic communities of it interested in championing the cause of ordinary Nigerians who are suff ering from the current anti-masses policies of the government. Former ASUU President and National Convener of Leadership Training Workshops, Dr. Dipo Fashina, stated this at a workshop tagged
“Towards a Principled and Ideological Unionism”, held at the University of Ibadan. Emphasising that ASUU, as a union, “hates ethnic jingoists and warlords who are not interested in the welfare of Nigerians”, asked Nigerians to fi ght for their rights and turned down those warlords .
Fashina declared that it was glaring that the hate jingoists “do not have the interests of Nigerians at heart because they all contributed to destruction of the country”. He stressed that it became important for ASUU to train new crop of leaders in the ideals of the union to facilitate emergence of new generation of activists that could fi ght for the masses. He further lamented that the tragedy that the gains of the struggle for independence, which caused a lot of sacrifi ces and bloodshed to achieve in 1960, have today been completely eroded and set aside. Chairman of the University of Ibadan, chapter of ASUU, Dr. Deji Omole, in his welcome address, said the training was geared towards building a virile union and nation, adding that ASUU was committed to full liberation of weak Nigerians.
