Public Nuisance: Oyo government shut down 3 churches over air pollution
Oyo State Government has closed down three churches for polluting the air ,noise making and for violating the prescribed noise level and other environmental laws in the state.
Chief Isaac Ishola. Ishola, who made this known, said that henceforth, the state government would no longer allow make-shift buildings to be used as places of worship.
The three churches were sealed at the weekend by the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Ishola. Ishola, however accused a General Overseer of one of the churches, noting that the subject was sensitive, Ishola said the clampdown on religious centres was the last resort following unsuccessful efforts to put the centres in check.
He observed that while club houses and mosques effectively complied with the environmental laws following warnings, several churches were often in defiance to state pleads. According to him, religious houses create 50 per cent of the noise pollution in Oyo State today.
