Court docks driver allegedly involved in hit-and-run with a Journalist in Ibadan.
A 31-year old Driver, Hameed Muritala was was allegedly involved in a hit and run accident with an Ibadan based journalist , Femi Oluwajobi was arraigned before an Oyo State Magistrate Court sitting at Iyaganku Ibadan.
It is on record that the prime suspect entered the Fresh FM, 105.9 Ibadan where the victim worked subsequently after the dastard incident,and made confessional statements before he was consequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
While presenting his case, The prosecutor, Insp. Adewale Amos informed the court that Muritala on Dec.31, 2017 at about 11: 30 p.m hit and killed the late broadcaster in front of the Radio Station.
“He allegedly hit the deceased with His Honda Element Jeep, with Registration number FST 04 ES.
“Mr Hameed was driving in a very dangerous manner which actually led to the death of the late Oluwajobi in front of Fresh FM Radio Station, where he was working, few minutes to the New Year,” He said.
The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of driving in a dangerous manner and causing death.
He added that the driver drove the vehicle void of due precaution and in a way that has no regards for the safety of other road users.”
The offence contravened the Federal Highway law, Cap 135, Vol.III of the Federation law 2000 and 2004.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the counsel to the accused, Mr Bolarinwa Lawal, urged the court to grant his client’s bail in liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jejelola Ogunbona, granted the accused bail of N100 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunbona said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with the proof of their Employment and the case was adjourned until February 20 for further hearing.
