APPOINTMENT OF OLOFA OF OFFA IN IBADAN: ODU PROTESTS TO KWARA AND OYO STATES GOVERNORS.
The umbrella body of all Offa sons and daughters worldwide, Offa Descendants Union (ODU) has formally submitted a letter of protest to the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, on the recent pronouncement of one of the 21 new kings in Ibadan as the OLOFA of Offa.
The Union frowned at this pronouncement and condemned it as denigrating the revered position of the OLOFA of OFFA who is the head of IBOLO Kingdom. While recognising the fact that there are several other communities founded by Offa descendants, the Union affirmed that there cannot be two OLOFA of OFFA anywhere else in the universe as there could not be two Olubadan, Ooni, and Alafin of Ibadan, Ile Ife and Oyo respectively.
The Union therefore urged the Kwara State Governor to prevail on his Oyo state counterpart to reverse the anomaly by changing the title of the new Oba to something else.
In his response, the Kwara State Governor thanked the Union for bringing this issue to his attention and promised to take it up with the Oyo state Governor.
Meanwhile, the ODU will be submitting similar letter to the Oyo State Governor in the next few days.
