AJIMOBI, OONI AND DIGNITARIES LAUNCHED A BOOK, TITLED, “WAR AGAINST FAILURE IN MATHEMATICS”, BY HON. BUNIYAMIN ADESINA AZEEZ

A member representing Ona-Ara state constituency in the OYHA, Hon. Buniyamin Adesina Azeez, has said the dreadful tag attached to Mathematic as a subject is not unconnected with problems in the manner of delivery by teachers and poor presentation of the application of formulas and theorems by authors of Mathematics textbooks.

He said the usual failure in mathematics would only be curbed if mathematics teachers, authors of textbooks, curriculum developers and other stakeholders made conscious efforts to improve the teaching and learning of the subject.

Azeez said this when he launched a 916-pages mathematics textbook titled, “War Against Failure in Mathematics”, containing 23 chapters, 395 topics with 4,639 solved questions drawn from public examination questions and Mathematics textbooks, at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, Ibadan on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

The event that had in attendance Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Adeyemo; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, represented by Elerefin of Erefin Ife, Oba Fayemi Olumayowa and Agbolu of Agbaje Ife, Oba Adekunle Adebowale; Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Adeyemo; book reviewer, Mr. Olu Olofin, Esq., and the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Alli Oyedeji.

While speaking, Ajimobi said the state was poised to adopt Azeez’s book in its schools towards effectively dealing with difficulties students face in Mathematics.

He admonished students to develop interest in the subject, noting that Mathematics, among other science subjects, was inevitable in living today’s increasingly digitalized world.

Olofin, who is National Examiner, Mathematics, National Examination Council, said that the book would help prepare students sitting for Junior and Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations, JSSCE & SSSCE, and improve their performance.

The Ooni of Ife, who was the chief launcher, commended the thoughtfulness of the lawmaker in making sure that the fear being experienced by students in Mathematics became a thing of the past.

He urged the stakeholders to emulate the gesture of the lawmaker by contributing their quota to the development of education at all levels, while calling for the same approach in tackling the erosion of Yoruba Language.

While speaking, Honourable Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Adeyemo, who was the Chief Host, also commended the efforts taken by Hon. Azeez which made the writing of the book a reality.

He furthered that Hon. Azeez is an outstanding and committed member of the House.

Adeyemo, said the Assembly will work in hand with the executive arm to fasten the adoption of the book in Oyo State schools.
